How does the Roadtronix system differ from traditional averaging beam-based systems?

Roadtronix uses high-density LiDAR scanning instead of a fixed mechanical beam with a few ultrasonic sensors. It continuously captures thousands of surface points and turns them into stable measurements through intelligent filtering and averaging. With no bulky structure and an adjustable scanning length, it improves accuracy, safety and flexibility on the job site.

What is the benefit of having an adjustable range?

 During a paving job, the shape of the road can change continuously, sometimes within a single paving run.  By adjusting the scanning length in real time, Roadtronix can respond to these geometric changes.  For example, when paving around a tight corner, Roadtronix can shorten the scanning length, so the scan stays on the paving surface and avoids unwanted areas.  This provides more flexibility than a fixed mechanical beam.

What is the maximum scanning range of the Roadtronix system?

The scanning range can be set to a maximum of 20 meters, but scanning range alone does not determine performance.  Thanks to the detailed surface information captured by the LiDAR, Roadtronix delivers significantly better results than traditional systems with a comparable range. 

How long does installation take on a typical paver?

The system can be deployed in under five minutes by a single operator, often without interrupting paving operations.  

Can the Roadtronix system be moved between machines?

Yes, it can be transferred between compatible pavers without welding or permanent modification.   

What training is required for operators?

The system is designed for straightforward operation.  Basic familiarization is typically sufficient for experienced paving crews.  Additional training can be provided if desired.   

What types of pavers is the Roadtronix system compatible with?

How does the Roadtronix system perform in varied weather conditions?

The system is engineered for real-world paving environments, including heat, dust, and variable lighting.

Does surface texture (coarse vs fine mix) affect performance?

High-density LiDAR scanning and intelligent processing are designed to maintain stable measurement across typical asphalt textures.

What maintenance is required?

Routine visual inspection and basic cleaning are generally sufficient.  Detailed guidelines are provided with the system. 

Is the Roadtronix system suitable for night paving?

Yes, as a LiDAR-based system, it does not rely on ambient light and operates effectively day or night.  

What measurable improvements can contractors expect?

The system uses detailed surface information from LiDAR to calculate a true moving average that improves the longitudinal profile.  By including the full surface in the calculation, the system delivers stable, predictable control, fewer bumps, and significantly better IRI smoothness.

Can it operate at typical paving speeds?

Yes, the system functions at normal paving speeds, there is no reason to slow down.

Is the system protected during transport and storage?

Yes, the system is supplied in a compact carrying case for safe handling and transport between sites.

Does the system work on narrow roads?

Yes, unlike mechanical averaging systems the Roadtronix 3D LiDAR does not need to be directly above the surface to measure it.   The operator can choose a scan location at a lateral offset from the paver to best suit site conditions.

Can a shiny surface be a limitation when using LiDAR?

Sometimes the performance of LiDAR scanning can be affected by reflection on a shiny surface.  However, extensive testing under varying surface conditions has proven that the system always outperforms a conventional averaging system.

What happens if the LiDAR signal is blocked?

It depends on the size and duration of the LiDAR blockage.  Brief interruptions are handled without affecting automated machine control.  If there is a bigger blockage which lasts longer, Roadtronix temporarily pauses automated control to protect the paving result.  Bright LED lights on the device alert people around the paver to move clear, and the operator can see the exact location of the blockage on the Roadtronix tablet.  Once the signal is clear again, automated control continues without any negative impact on the paving result.
