The story behind the system
The Background.
Roadtronix was founded by three partners whose paths converged around a shared goal: redefining smoothness in asphalt paving.
Mike Milne and Jan Mennink met early in their careers and grew up around asphalt paving through their families' businesses, gaining a practical understanding of paving crews, machines and real site conditions from an early stage. Mike went on to build a career in global asphalt advisory and industry partnerships, while Jan developed deep expertise in positioning systems, machine control and product architecture. Berry Zwerts built his career in software and systems engineering for road construction and logistics optimization, specializing in turning complex measurement data into practical, usable information.
Jan and Berry have worked side by side since 2018, developing paving products together and building a shared understanding of what it takes to make advanced technology work in real paving conditions. Combined with Mike's industry network and market perspective, that partnership became the foundation for Roadtronix.
The Build.
Years of working across paving projects and machine systems showed the founders a consistent problem: crews needed better surface information during paving, without adding more equipment, handling or complexity around the paver.
Existing approaches often relied on limited reference points or set-up methods that could be difficult to manage in active site conditions. The opportunity was clear: measure more of the surface, reduce the influence of isolated variation, and give crews a more stable basis for managing asphalt thickness.
Roadtronix was built to address that need. By combining high-density LiDAR measurement, intelligent filtering and practical paver-mounted design, the system supports smoother, more consistent asphalt placement on site.
The Team.
Roadtronix is led by three co-founders, each responsible for a core pillar of the company: partnerships, product, and engineering.
Mike Milne | Co-Founder - Partnerships
Mike brings more than 30 years of experience across road construction and technology, with a practical understanding of how the paving industry works. As co-founder, he leads Roadtronix's sales and commercial strategy, building partnerships with manufacturers, dealers and regional networks to bring the system to market through people who understand paving. His long-standing industry relationships ensure Roadtronix is introduced with the needs of contractors, crews and road authorities in mind.
Jan Mennink | Co-Founder - Product
Jan brings more than 25 years of experience in positioning systems, machine control and system design. As co-founder, he leads product management and the technical direction of Roadtronix, ensuring the system is engineered for reliable performance in paving environments. His focus is on turning complex measurement and control requirements into a practical, field-ready system that supports smoother, more controlled asphalt placement.
Berry Zwerts | Co-Founder - Engineering
Berry brings more than 15 years of experience in software and systems development. As co-founder, he leads engineering and development at Roadtronix, including the software architecture and control logic that turn high-density LiDAR data into accurate, usable paving information. His focus is on making advanced measurement and processing work reliably in real paving conditions, so the technology integrates seamlessly into paving workflows.
